Class of 2020
My name is Galen Galeotos and I am a senior from Canton in the Electrical program. Outside of being the class president and student District School Committee representative I am a competitive dancer at Edge Studio of Dance in Canton MA, where I train for 8+ hours a week, and assist for 2. I am also currently employed with McDonald Electric for my Co-Op experience
My career goals are to go to college and major in construction management. Following college graduation, I hope to find a spot in the IBEW Local 103 Apprenticeship program for electricians.
What has BHR done for you?
BHR has opened many doors for me, including my job at McDonald Electrical. Being an active member of Student Council I have come to appreciate how much I have grown from the shy person I was freshman year.
Why did you choose BHR instead of your local high school?
I chose BHR over my town’s sending high school because my parents and I have a family friend whose son graduated from Southeastern Regional and is making really good money right out of high school. I was inspired by him to pursue Electrical, and can foresee a boom in the industry with the installation of solar panels and electric car chargers. The electrical program provided me with very important foundation knowledge for the rest of my life.
A quotation that inspires you or that you live by
“I might say I don’t know a lot, but trust me, I be knowin.” (Jordan Fitzhenry)
Favorite book or movie
Honestly my favorite book has to be “Great Expectations” by Charles Dickens because of the memories I had reading the book in sophomore English with Ms. Barley.
Best advice you have ever received from a teacher/parent/family member/friend
If you’re going to do something, do it 100%. My mom said this to me when she was teaching me how to drive and avoid accidents, but I have found that this quote applies to almost everything I go through in life.
Advice that you would give to a grade 8 student applying to BHR
Don’t listen to the stigma that “Blue Hills students won't get into college.” If you work hard and challenge yourself academically and technically, you will get where you want to be in life. Going to a trade school makes you more valuable, always remember that.
Teacher or faculty member at BHR who has helped or inspired you the most
Ms. Peach. Being the foreign language instructor, Ms. Peach knows me as Senor Galeotos. I found myself completely in love with Spanish every day because the class was breathable, and I found a passion for teaching others within myself. Junior year I tutored a student from failing to passing, and am always available to tutor Spanish on Thursday :).
Who is your hero?
My hero has to be Goku from the anime Dragon Ball because he has a passion and determination about him that I wish to emulate every day. Even if he loses, he gets right back up.
Most memorable moment at BHR?
My most memorable moment at BHR has to be the sophomore year Pep Rally dance-off where I participated and did some cool flips.
